Welcome to my blog! I am a wife, mother, teacher, writer, baker, painter, die-hard bookworm, and now a blogger!

We are nearing the completion of my first big writing project, a children's book titled, That Sneaky Snake Sydney. By "we" I mean me and my buddy, Phil Rood, who just happens to be an amazing illustrator! We will have it ready to publish very soon!

I began this project about 15 years ago, after the passing of my grandfather, LaRoy "Spike" Borchardt. In his day he was a very intelligent, articulate man. He also happened to be a teacher! He loved to tell stories about when he was a boy growing up on his parents' farm in the midwest. He also spun yarns about when his father was a boy and the trouble he and his uncle found themseves in more often than not.

In his middle years he was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease. He developed tremors and began to stutter. He had a difficult time expressing himself which was very frustrating for him, as you can imagine. This was when he started to type letters. He would plug away all afternoon on his typewriter telling some of those stories to his friends and family. I still have some of those letters and will treasure them always. It is from one of his stories that the seed for my story was cultivated.

After too many years on a shelf, I decided to dust off the manuscript, spruce it up a bit, and see what happens! Off we go!!

You can follow the journey on Facebook. That Sneaky Snake Sydney's page can be found here.
